The order directed the Chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality to convene a White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation. The Departments of the Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency co-hosted the event.

On August 29, 30 and 31, 2005, invited representatives from the public and private sectors convened in St. Louis, Missouri to discuss the advancement of this cooperative conservation vision.

Conference Purpose: Strengthen Shared Governance and Citizen Stewardship

Broaden cooperative conservation with state, tribal and local governments, communities, private for profit and non-profit organizations, and private citizens

Enhance and integrate public and private land stewardship

Bring together key stakeholders and decision makers who can advance cooperative conservation

Identify ideas for future conservation and environmental policies and initiatives

Facilitate the exchange of information and advice for successful partnerships

Institutionalize cooperative conservation to enhance on-the-ground conservation results and progress
